EVENTS WE HOST
At the University of Alberta Powerlifting Association (UAPA), we aim to create an engaging and supportive community for lifters of all levels. Each semester, we organize a variety of events to bring members together, celebrate strength, and provide opportunities for growth:
-
Powersurge – UAPA proudly hosts Powersurge, our annual APU sanctioned powerlifting meet held on campus at the University of Alberta's one and only, Butterdome. This staple event welcomes lifters from across Alberta to compete in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. It provides students and community members the chance to experience the excitement of competition, set new records, and represent the university on the platform.
-
Mock Meets – Friendly competitions that replicate the atmosphere of a sanctioned powerlifting meet. Members can practice commands, attempt new personal records, and gain valuable experience without the pressure of an official federation event.
-
Workshops & Technique Sessions – Led by experienced lifters and coaches, these events focus on improving form, building strength safely, and learning strategies to excel in the squat, bench press, and deadlift.
-
Social Events – From team workouts to casual hangouts, we host community-building events that allow members to connect outside of lifting, building lasting friendships within the club.
-
Volunteer & Outreach Opportunities – UAPA members often get involved in local competitions and initiatives, giving back to the broader lifting community while gaining behind-the-scenes experience.
Through these events, UAPA promotes a supportive environment where lifters can challenge themselves, build confidence, and grow both on and off the platform.
